Starkville High School head football coach Chris Jones will not be on the sidelines for his team’s upcoming matchup at Oxford High School in the “Little Egg Bowl.”
Jones was handed a one-game suspension by his employer, WCBI’s Jon Sokoloff reports. Jones’ punishment comes following an altercation that took place after Starkville’s 42-41 loss against Louisville this past Friday, though the frontman was not physically involved in the spat.
Not only will the head coach miss Friday’s contest versus the Chargers, but multiple players are also facing suspensions for their alleged roles in the incident, according to the Starkville Daily News’ Robbie Faulk. The duration of the punishments and the total number of players sitting out were not specified.
As things stand, Starkville has not publicly named an interim head coach to take the reins this Friday night in Oxford as Jones cannot be with the team until Sunday afternoon. Jones is expected to return to his usual post on the sideline next Friday night when the Yellowjackets travel to Greenwood High School.
