A second Mississippian on this season of The Voice has teamed up with Reba McEntire.
Biloxi native Deon Jones only got one chair turn during his blind audition on Tuesday night, but it was all he needed to advance in the hit TV singing competition. As McEntire took a special liking to Jones’ rendition of Donnie Hathaway’s “Little Ghetto Boy,” the other coaches started second-guessing themselves on whether they should have tried to nab Jones for their team.
“Reba has had a few one-button turns. I know that she is hearing something that we’re not hearing because I’ve seen her do it before,” Gwen Stefani said on the broadcast as Snoop Dogg added, “Reba, she’s the returning champion, so she knows how to pick them. She knows what to look for.”
After Jones’ powerful performance, the “Queen of Country” let him know that even though he doesn’t sing in her genre of choice, he’s a worthy addition to Team Reba. Last season, McEntire hand-selected a group of contestants across an array of genres such as R&B, pop, and country.
“Wow, that was incredible,” McEntire said after Jones wrapped up on stage. “I feel real good about that.”
Jones joins fellow Mississippian Tanner Frick on McEntire’s team as season 26 of The Voice continues. Frick, a native of Brandon who now lives in Tennessee, received a four-chair turn after performing Morgan Wallen’s “Thought You Should Know.”
The Voice airs Monday and Tuesday nights at 8/7c on NBC.
