Former Edwards Police Chief and Jackson police officer Torrence Donnell Mayfield faces up to a decade behind bars for lying to a firearms dealer while obtaining a gun.
According to court documents and statements in open court, Mayfield purchased a firearm for another person on October 26, 2021. That purchase was made at a pawn shop which is a Federal Firearms Licensee.
Mayfield was required to complete a written form to purchase the firearm. On that form, Mayfield falsely indicated that he was purchasing the firearm for himself, not someone else.
It is against federal law to make a false statement to a firearm dealer when purchasing a gun.
Mayfield is scheduled to be sentenced on March 4, 2025. The FBI is investigating the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Herbert S. Carraway and Charles W. Kirkham are prosecuting the case.
