The Jackson Police Department announced that veteran officer Corporal Christopher Gallion, Sr. died at 39 years old Thursday night.
According to department officials, Gallion was a 17-year veteran of the capital city’s force after graduating as part of the “Mighty 43rd” class in 2008.
“Throughout his career, he served with honor, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to protecting and serving his community. His leadership, mentorship, and kindness touched the lives of so many, both in and out of uniform,” the statement reads.
“We love him dearly, and his presence will be deeply missed. Though his watch has ended, his legacy of service and sacrifice will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.”
JPD Chief of Police Joseph Wade said Friday that Gallion died of a “medical crisis” toward the end of his Thursday shift. He was transported to a local hospital where he passed away.
Gallion is survived by his wife of nearly three years and their young children.
“We mourn alongside his family,” Wade said. “We are so hurt about this tragedy to that family, to the JPD family. There were so many JPD officers at that hospital last night that were hurting about the loss of their fellow officer. I ask our community to wrap their arms around their police department, around this young family.”
