A convicted murderer who escaped from the Mississippi State Penitentiary has been captured, according to a local TV report.
Nevin Whetstone, 71, was taken into custody Friday afternoon several miles west of the prison in Sunflower County, per WTVA. He had escaped through a back gate Tuesday, with authorities asking the public to be on the lookout for the “dangerous” inmate.
This wasn’t the first time Whetstone had escaped from prison. In 1991, he had an additional year tacked on to his life sentence for breaking free from the jail yard. He was originally sentenced in 1983 for capital murder in Lee County.
The Mississippi Department of Corrections had not released additional details about his capture at the time this article was published.
