Storms that began Wednesday and went into Thursday morning brought damage to several Mississippi counties, according to Gov. Tate Reeves.
During a Thursday afternoon press conference, Reeves provided an update on damage reports being fielded by the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. So far, six injuries have been reported in Marshall, Tate, and Tippah counties, with the worst of the weather happening between midnight and sunrise. No fatalities were reported.
At least 80 homes across Alcorn, Benton, Bolivar, DeSoto, Marshall, Tate, and Tippah counties were damaged, according to additional information released by MEMA on Friday. The agency has teams filling requests for tarps, bottled water, and ready-to-eat meals.
“I want all Mississippians to know that the state of Mississippi is in this for the long haul, and we will do everything in our power to rebuild and recover as quickly as possible,” Reeves said. “I ask my fellow Mississippians to please pray for those who are injured and please pray for their families, as well as those whose homes were damaged.”
Damage assessments are still underway. Those who have not reported damage to MEMA are encouraged to do so by using the agency’s online portal. Residents should also file an insurance claim and take photos of any property damage.
