An investigation has been launched after an officer-involved shooting in Hancock County left one person dead.
According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, deputies with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence call on Sunday where a subject was said to be holding an individual captive with handcuffs near Old Gainesville Road along Highway 604 in Pearlington.
Upon arriving, the subject displayed a weapon at the deputies resulting in the deputies discharging their firearms. The subject received fatal injuries. No officers were injured during the encounter.
On Monday morning, the Hancock County coroner identified the suspect Willie Carroll, 51, of Cypress, Texas.
MBI is assessing the incident and continues to gather evidence. All findings will be turned over to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
