Simpson General Hospital has announced plans for another round of renovations, set to begin this month at the medical facility in Mendenhall.

The construction process is expected to take about a year and result in improvements to the interior and exterior of Simpson General. Inside the hospital, renovations include 21 patient suites with showers, a new lab, an enlarged pharmacy and lobby, a new gift shop, and an update physical therapy department. The entire facility will be repainted on the outside. A new portico will be built, and updates will be made to the parking lot.

“Our hospital is a cornerstone of Simpson County, providing healthcare to our community for 68 years,” Simpson General CEO Greg Gibbes said. “We are thrilled to be able to make these improvements that will enhance our services and the overall patient experience. We want our patients to know they will always receive top-quality care at SGH.”

The incoming upgrades at Simpson General are federally funded and were submitted by U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith as part of her annual community project funding requests. For the incoming fiscal year, the Republican has requested another $6.7 million for further facility improvements and emergency department upgrades at the hospital.

“We would like to thank Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith for her attention to our rural healthcare systems,” Gibbes said. “Without her unwavering support, we would not be able to offer these upgrades for our community members needing local medical care.”

In 2023, Simpson General underwent a 6,200-square-foot project to create an inpatient senior adult care unit, add new space for inpatient care, and relocate several clinical support departments to streamline ancillary support services.

Simpson General provides more than 250 jobs and treats over 33,000 patients annually through the hospital and clinics in Mendenhall, Harrisville, and Puckett.
