A running back representing one of Mississippi’s universities and another who was born and raised in the Magnolia State have been recognized by the SEC as co-offensive players of the week.
In Oxford, No. 7 Ole Miss’ Kewan Lacy had a career-high effort in a 34-24 win over Florida. Lacy notched a personal-best 224 yards and three touchdowns in the crucial matchup. By scoring three times on the ground, Lacy overtook Quinshon Judkins as the red and blue’s record holder for the most rushing touchdowns in a single season, finishing Saturday’s matchup with 19 to his name. Lacy also broke the single-season all-purpose touchdown record of 17.

Lacy’s performance, which undoubtedly played a key role in the Rebels (10-1, 6-1 SEC) landing in the win column, all but stamped Ole Miss’ ticket to the College Football Playoff.
A couple of states north, a Mississippi native literally ran all over a school located just over 150 miles from where he grew up. Missouri’s Ahmad Hardy, a Lawrence County native, had an eye-popping 300 rushing yards and three touchdowns in a 49-27 win versus Mississippi State. Hardy’s standout performance came at a time of need for the Tigers, as Eliah Drinkwitz’s crew lacked starting quarterback Beau Pribula.

As for the remainder of the regular season, a Black Friday Egg Bowl battle between Ole Miss and Mississippi State (5-6, 1-6 SEC) bears a meaningful outcome for both programs. For the Rebels, a win would seal the program’s first-ever playoff appearance, while a victory for the Bulldogs would snap a two-year postseason hiatus.
