A man police consider to be responsible for a Mississippi police K-9 being struck by a vehicle has been locked up after being captured in the attic of a Tennessee home.

Ronald Pilkington was arrested on Tuesday, courtesy of a multi-agency effort. The Tipton County, Tenn., Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies recognized Pilkington and knew him to be a local resident when his picture was released by a “be on the lookout” alert issued by Southaven Police.  He was located hiding in the attic of an area residence.

The arrest follows Southaven police K-9, Dagger, being hit by an automobile on Nov. 11 while Pilkington was reportedly fleeing from law enforcement on foot. Dagger reportedly suffered multiple broken bones in the accident.

“We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of concern from the community for K-9 Dagger. He is in stable condition and is expected to recover,” a statement from the Southaven Police Department reads. “We extend sincere thanks and appreciation to Precious Paws Animal Hospital and Memphis Veterinary Specialists for providing outstanding care to Dagger, as well as to the Memphis Police Department for their assistance during this incident.”
