State authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting at a Lucedale home.
The gunfire rang out on Blackberry Lane around 7 p.m. on Sunday. Officers with a regional SWAT team were attempting to serve a warrant when the unidentified male subject reportedly barricaded himself inside the residence. After a stand-off, the subject is said to have approached the door with what appeared to be a weapon.
Officers then discharged their weapons, fatally striking the subject. No officers were physically injured during the incident.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is currently assessing the incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office. Additional information may be provided at a later time, per officials.
