When it comes to rivalries, sometimes fans tend to take it to the next level. And according to Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, ahead of Friday’s Egg Bowl, Mississippi State fans literally took quarterback Trinidad Chambliss’ jersey hours before the high-profile matchup.
During an interview on ESPN’s SEC Network, Kiffin alleged that hidden cameras set up by Rebel equipment staff caught Bulldog fans breaking into the visitors locker room and running off with Chambliss’ No. 6 top, among other items.
“You can hear these fans already out here,” Kiffin told Marty Smith during the interview. “This will be a great game today. It’s a very passionate rivalry. I mean, shoot, at 10:00 last night, luckily our great Ken Crain (equipment manager) put secret cameras in the locker room so we could watch Mississippi State break into our locker room and steal things.
“We reported it to Mississippi State and they said, ‘we’ll put security on it.’ And how about this – at 3:00 in the morning, they break in and take Trinidad’s jersey. Guess you can expect nothing less from these people.”

While Kiffin did reveal what’s pointing to be the latest subplot of a 124-year-old rivalry full of bitterness, the larger subplot is undoubtedly where he may take (or keep) his talents after the game. Earlier this week, Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter said a decision regarding Kiffin’s future would be announced Saturday amid open courting by LSU and Florida to make the offensive guru their next head coach.
For the time being, though, focus remains on the field as the latest edition of the Egg Bowl has high stakes for both teams. If No. 7 Ole Miss (10-1, 6-1) wins, it essentially locks a spot in the College Football Playoff for the first time ever. If Mississippi State (5-6, 1-6 SEC) wins, it locks up a bowl berth for the first time since 2022. The game kicks off from Starkville at 11 a.m. CT.
