A north Mississippi grandfather is behind bars after allegedly attempting to pull a gun on a school resource officer.

Law enforcement authorities reported that the incident happened on the campus of Alcorn Central in Glen on Monday morning when a student’s grandparent arrived. Police added that the unidentified grandfather did not have authorization to access his grandchild.

A school resource officer then approached the individual in the school’s parking lot before he could enter the building. This prompted an altercation in which the suspect is accused of trying to produce a firearm but to no avail.

“Our SRO acted quickly, subdued the individual, and took him into custody. Additional law enforcement officers responded to secure the area,” a statement from the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office reads. “Based on our investigation, this is believed to be an isolated incident.”

The individual was arrested and transported to the Alcorn County Jail. No further details have been provided at this time.
