The Jackson Police Department is investigating after a man was found electrocuted to death on Friday afternoon.

Officers were called to the 300 block of Greenhill Drive around 4:30 p.m. for what was initially reported as an elderly woman who had walked into a power line. When first responders arrived, they discovered the situation was different from the original call.

According to investigators, the victim was a man, not a woman, and evidence suggests he had attempted to climb a utility pole, possibly to steal copper wiring. The pole broke, causing him to fall and be electrocuted.

The victim had no identification on him, but police say he was wearing an ankle monitor, which they are using to confirm his identity. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin will be notified once identification is complete.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Jackson Police Department at (601) 960-1234 or Crime Stoppers at (601) 355-8477.
