The U.S. Justice Department announced Tuesday that a federal inmate in Mississippi died over the weekend.
Develon Lashonie Cunningham was found unresponsive at the Federal Correctional Institution, Yazoo City Medium, on Sunday at approximately 8:25 p.m. Employees attempted life-saving measures before emergency medical personnel responded and transported Cunningham to a local hospital.
Cunningham was pronounced deceased upon arriving at the hospital. The FBI was notified of Cunningham’s death and is reviewing it. At this time, it’s unclear how he died.
Cunningham, 49, had been at the prison in Yazoo City since February and was serving a sentence of more than 15 years for the distribution of methamphetamine.
