Authorities in Panola County are investigating after a teenager was shot in the head just after a Christmas parade had taken place.
The incident occurred in the Crenshaw area shortly before midnight on Monday, the local sheriff’s office reports. The victim was identified as 13-year-old Jayden Stokes, an eighth-grade student at North Panola Middle School, his grandmother confirmed to WREG-TV.
Family members of Stokes told the outlet that Stokes and his siblings had gotten into an altercation with a group of unidentified individuals in an alleyway just after the Crenshaw Christmas parade. That’s when shots were fired, and the teenager was struck.
Stokes was transported to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, where he was reported by authorities to be in critical condition. No arrests have been announced in this case at this time. Anyone with relevant information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Panola County at (662) 209-2011.
