An individual is deceased following an officer-involved shooting in Scott County.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assessing an incident involving the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and the Morton Police Department that occurred on Highway 13. Local law enforcement officials report that deputies responded to a call regarding a subject attempting to enter vehicles in the parking lot of an unspecified business.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies say they observed the same unidentified subject driving a yard-truck through the business’s parking lot. As deputies attempted to make contact, the subject driver reportedly fled, resulting in deputies pursuing the subject.
While on Highway 13, the driver is said to have struck a cement truck, a passenger vehicle, and an occupied school bus. At that point, deputies discharged their weapons in an attempt to neutralize the subject, ultimately striking the subject, causing fatal injuries.
No other injuries were reported. No deputies were physically injured during the incident. Once state authorities wrap up their investigation into this incident, they will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
