A woman from Texas has been arrested after razor blades were discovered shoved into bakery items at a pair of Walmart stores in Mississippi.
The Biloxi Police Department announced Tuesday evening that they arrested Camille Benson, 33, near the 1000 block of Division Street. Benson was charged with attempted mayhem and booked at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
Benson’s arrest came a day after officers were called to the Walmart Supercenter on CT Switzer Sr. Drive and the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Pass Road regarding customers finding razor blades in loaves of bread. Store employees checked the shelves and found additional loaves that had been tampered with, as well.
Throughout the investigation, officers discovered that razor blades had previously been found in bakery items at the same locations on Dec. 5 and Dec. 7, but neither of the earlier instances was reported to police. Items that had been tampered with included loaves of bread and a banana nut muffin.
On Tuesday afternoon, after reviewing video surveillance, Biloxi police released photos of a person of interest who turned out to be Benson. She was arrested within hours of the department asking the public to help identify her.
As of now, no injuries have been reported. Customers are still encouraged to check any recent purchases for sharp objects.
