Nonstop flights between Jackson and Miami will start happening next year, officials with the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority announced.

American Airlines flights from Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) to Miami International Airport (MIA) and vice versa will begin on March 14, 2026, and happen every Saturday through at least the end of the summer.

“Perfect for a convenient day roundtrip or an extended getaway, this new weekly service, operating on Saturdays, expands JAN’s growing connectivity and opens an exciting new gateway directly to the Caribbean, Latin America, Mexico, and a wide range of European connections – all through Miami’s globally connected hub,” a press release noted.

Rosa Beckett, chief executive officer of the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority, said the new flight option targets both leisure and business travelers. Tickets are already available at American Airlines’ website.

“We are thrilled to welcome this new nonstop service to Miami,” Beckett said. “This route brings tremendous value to both leisure and business travelers while strengthening our partnership with American Airlines. And just as Miami welcomes the world, we are equally proud that this route brings more visitors into Jackson, where travelers can experience our culture creativity, music, food, and unmatched Southern hospitality the moment they step off the plane.

“We are honored to be at the front door of this experience. It is a clear reflection of JMAA’s commitment to elevating the travel experience, expanding connectivity and delivering the high-quality service our community deserves.”

While travelers will have to wait a few months to take advantage of the new JAN-MIA connection, Jackson’s main airport is currently seeing an influx in travelers due to the end-of-year holiday period. Peak travel is expected to continue through Jan. 4.

JAN is Mississippi’s busiest airport and generates nearly $2 billion in annual economic impact. Other airlines offered at JAN are Delta, Southwest, and United.
