Two people, including a law enforcement officer, are hospitalized following a shooting in Greenwood.
The shooting occurred on Monday at a home on Cotton Street. Officers with the Greenwood Police Department report that they responded to a call for a welfare check at a local residence. Upon arrival, an unidentified male allegedly began firing shots at authorities.
One officer was struck and transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect then reportedly barricaded himself inside the home, but later surrendered to police. He had also been injured in the shooting and was transported to a local medical facility. No other injuries were reported at the scene.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is currently assessing this incident. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s Office.
