Christmas came a little early this year for Mississippi State football fans.
Promising freshman quarterback Kamario Taylor spread a great deal of holiday cheer to the Bulldog faithful on Monday when announcing his return to the program in the 2026 season. A move that was expected, given Taylor’s vocal support for Mississippi State, was also widely celebrated by a fan base that is hopeful about a future with the talented dual-threat signal caller leading Jeff Lebby’s offense.
A Noxubee County High School product, Taylor played in spurts throughout his freshman campaign, mainly as a short-yardage option and red zone threat due to his rushing abilities, while backing up Blake Shapen. Taylor’s big moment came in the Egg Bowl, when Lebby gave him the starting nod, benching Shapen in the process.

Though Mississippi State was ultimately popped by Ole Miss in a 38-19 blowout, the homegrown Bulldog quarterback had multiple eyebrow-raising moments — most notably a 35-yard touchdown in which he evaded at least four Rebel defenders. Taylor finished his debut start with 351 total yards, 178 in the air and 173 on the ground, while rushing for 2 touchdowns and throwing a pick that was tipped at the line of scrimmage.
Another notable offensive asset joining Taylor in returning to Mississippi State in the upcoming season is running back Fluff Bothwell. The South Alabama transfer amassed 639 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns this season. The two will have another opportunity to showcase their talents this season when the Duke’s Mayo Bowl rolls around on Jan. 2, and the Bulldogs take on Wake Forest.
