A man being detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has passed away in a Mississippi hospital.

On Dec. 14, Delvin Francisco Rodriguez, a 39-year-old native of Nicaragua, was pronounced dead at the Merit Health Natchez facility following a failed test to determine brain function. ICE reports that, per the wishes of the Rodriguez family, medical staff removed him from the ventilator.

10 days before Rodriguez’s death, Adams County Detention Center medical staff responded to an emergency call within the facility. At the time, Rodriguez was not responding to the staff and did not have a pulse. Life-saving measures were performed, and he was transferred to the hospital, where he later passed away.

Rodriguez entered the United States at an unknown location and date without inspection, admission, or parole by an immigration officer, officials report. On June 9, 2018, U.S. Border Patrol encountered Rodriguez near Menagers Dam Village in Arizona. He was determined to be inadmissible, served a Notice and Order of Expedited Removal, and was released on bond in July 2018.

On Sept. 25 of this year, law enforcement arrested Rodriguez in Dillon, Colo., and he was ordered removed to Nicaragua in October 2025 after waiving appeal. He was transferred to New Orleans for removal staging before being booked into the Adams County Detention Center pending his removal to Nicaragua one day before his passing.
