Ole Miss football fans readying for the team’s Fiesta Bowl matchup against Miami are taking full advantage of an easier way to get there.
The Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) announced Saturday that Southwest Airlines is temporarily offering nonstop flights from Jackson to Phoenix. The first two flights scheduled have been sold out, airport officials confirmed, but with the ongoing demand, a third direct flight has been added to the schedule.
“Thank you to Ole Miss football fans for showing up and booking Southwest Airlines’ nonstop service from JAN to Phoenix (PHX). With two flights sold out, Southwest has added a third flight to meet the excitement!” JAN said in a Facebook post on Sunday. “This is a win for collegiate pride, regional travel, and community support.”
Airport officials urged Rebel fans looking to fly out of Jackson to purchase their tickets as soon as possible. The nonstop flights are scheduled for Wednesday at 10:35 a.m., noon, and 7:25 p.m. According to Southwest’s website, limited seats were still available on the 10:35 a.m. flight as of early Monday morning.
There are other flights from Jackson to Phoenix scattered throughout the week that have layovers. Tickets are still available and can be purchased here.
No. 6 Ole Miss will take on No. 10 Miami in the Fiesta Bowl, which is serving as a College Football Playoff semifinal game this year, on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., a suburb of Phoenix.
