At least two radar-confirmed tornadoes touched down in Mississippi on Friday morning with more severe weather possible throughout the day.
The tornadoes touched down in the Pine Belt region around 6:30 a.m., according to Fox Weather. There’s no word at this point on the extent of the damage.
The National Weather Service in Jackson said severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour and possible tornadoes are possible through Friday evening. The peak threat will last through 10 p.m., though some danger along the Highway 84 corridor could linger into late tonight.
Multiple rounds of heavy rainfall totaling two to four inches, with localized areas of three to six inches, are expected Friday into Friday night for areas near and along the Natchez Trace as well as points southward. Rainfall rates may reach between two to three inches per hour. This heavy rainfall will create potential for flash flooding with heightened concern for low-lying and urban areas. Minor river flooding is also possible.
