Ole Miss forward Cotie McMahon has been named SEC Player of the Week after leading the Rebels to a pair of big conference wins.
McMahon, an Ohio State transfer, played an integral role in helping Yolette McPhee-McCuin’s group earn wins over No. 5 Oklahoma and in-state rival Mississippi State. The victories came after the stellar forward was named to the Wooden Award Women’s Midseason top 25 watch list, which monitors players who could be up for the honor of college basketball’s top player.
Against the Sooners, McMahon led the team with 22 points, four assists, and four rebounds to help the Rebels amass their 14th top-five victory in program history. Versus the Bulldogs, McMahon led the charge again, totaling 21 points.
With her two double-digit scoring appearances, McMahon has scored at least 10 points in each of Ole Miss’ first 19 games this season. McMahon is now tied former Rebel Bianca Thomas, who started the 2009-10 season with 19 consecutive games of double-digit points, for the longest streak of its kind. McMahon ranks third in SEC play in scoring (21.5 points per game) and three-point percentage (44.4%).
McMahon’s most recent recognition marks her eighth weekly conference honor and her first in the SEC. She was a six-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week last season and won Big Ten Player of the Week once during the campaign.
Ole Miss currently ranks No. 18 in the nation and is gearing up to play Georgia on Sunday. Tipoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
