Alcorn State University was placed on a lockdown Thursday morning after officials reported a “threat to campus safety,” according to alerts and social media posts from the school. The lockdown is ongoing until further notice by officials.
Students, faculty, and staff at the Lorman campus were instructed to shelter in place and remain in secure locations while the situation is being assessed. Details about the nature of the threat have not been released by officials.
In a statement shared on the university’s official Facebook page, Alcorn State reiterated that the lockdown was in response to information related to campus safety and urged the campus community to stay where they were until further instructions were provided.
Due to the lockdown, classes were delayed until noon on Thursday, and only essential employees were asked to report to work in the morning. The school said additional updates would be shared when information becomes available.
At this time, authorities have not provided any further details about the threat or whether anyone has been taken into custody. Law enforcement and campus police are continuing to monitor the situation and work with university officials to ensure the safety of the Alcorn State community.
