Jackson State University will be the center of the sports universe next month when ESPN brings its flagship program to the HBCU.
“SportsCenter” will air live inside the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center on Monday, Feb. 2, to kick off Black History Month, university officials confirmed on Thursday. The live broadcast begins at 1 p.m. CT and will be followed by another live airing at 4 p.m. CT. Jackson State was selected among a small group of colleges to be spotlighted in the show’s “SportsCenter on Campus” series.
The episodes, hosted by anchor Amina Smith, will feature Tiger head men’s basketball coach and former NBA standout Mo Williams. The nationally-celebrated Sonic Boom of the South marching band will be represented by director Dr. Roderick Little will also join the program to highlight the university and its rich history.
Officials are allowing students and fans to be part of the momentous occasion. Those planning to attend are asked to arrive no later than 12:15 p.m. CT.
