Schools in Mississippi are closing and altering class schedules due to Winter Storm Fern’s impact.
The National Weather Service said Sunday morning that conditions are deteriorating across the I-55 corridor and additional areas of north Mississippi. The heaviest of rain and any sleet is expected to be out of the state by Sunday evening. However, low temperatures statewide are forecast below freezing Sunday night and into the school week, meaning ice could stick for several days and conditions could be dangerous.
To ensure the safety of students and faculty, the following schools have announced schedule changes:
- Alcorn School District: All schools closed on Monday and Tuesday.
- Belhaven University: Closed on Monday.
- Benton County School District: All schools closed on Monday and Tuesday.
- Blue Mountain Christian University: Campus closed on Monday and Tuesday. Classes will be virtual.
- Carroll County School District: All schools closed on Monday and Tuesday.
- Carroll Academy: Closed on Monday.
- Clarksdale Municipal School District: All schools closed on Monday.
- Clinton Public School District: All schools closed on Monday. Classes will be virtual.
- Cleveland School District: All schools closed on Monday.
- Coahoma Community College: Campuses closed on Monday.
- Copiah-Lincoln Community College: Campuses closed on Monday. Classes will be virtual.
- Delta State University: Campus closed on Monday and Tuesday. Classes will be virtual.
- Delta Tech College: Closed on Monday.
- DeSoto Christian Academy: Closed on Monday and Tuesday.
