Three people, including a 3-year-old child, were found dead in Hattiesburg in what police say was a murder-suicide.

Officers with the Hattiesburg Police Department responded Tuesday afternoon to a welfare check at a home in the 500 block of Seventh Avenue, where they found three deceased individuals. The victims were publicly identified Friday as 37-year-old Thomas O’Neil, 32-year-old Brianna Bruno, and a 3-year-old whose identity has not been released.

HPD said the child was related to both O’Neil and Bruno.

According to HPD, autopsy results returned Friday showed that Bruno shot O’Neil and the child before turning the gun on herself. The deaths of O’Neil and the child were ruled homicides, while Bruno’s death was ruled a suicide.

HPD did not confirm whether the investigation has been officially closed but said the incident was isolated and posed no threat to the public.

“This incident was isolated, and there is no threat to the public. No additional information is expected to be released,” the department said in a statement. “We extend our condolences to the families affected by this devastating event.”
