Federal officials have stepped in to investigate after a Madison elementary school received two bomb threats in as many days.

Madison Station Elementary principal Kara Davis said in a video message to school families on Thursday that the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Madison Police Department are working together to find the source of the threats. The school was forced to evacuate students and staff on Wednesday morning before informing parents on Thursday morning before school started that another threat had been received. Both days of classes were canceled.

“I am so confident that the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and the Madison Police Department will, in fact, pinpoint the person or persons who have caused us such chaos,” Davis said. “They have made great strides already. They have been in frequent and very clear communication with us about things they are unveiling over the last two days.”

Davis added that updates on the investigation will not be shared with the public because “our ultimate goal is to determine who this person is and seize threats to our precious home, our school, our beloved Madison Station.”

Madison Station will remain closed on Friday as the investigation continues.

“Your children have had a rough two days. They have. But there is no place else I would rather them be than at Madison Station with me – and that will happen Monday,” Davis said. “I’m so excited to get your children back in my arms and at our home.”

Beginning Monday, counselors will be on campus to hold conversations with children on the events of the past two days, Davis said. She and other faculty members are also planning to meet with every child to ensure they feel safe.

“We will definitely meet with all children. I want them to see my face. I want them to hear my voice. I want them to feel my hugs. I want them to know that they are loved, and they are created to be here in this moment with us right now,” Davis said.

An enhanced security plan has been compiled by Madison Station with additional law enforcement officers to be stationed at the school when classes resume.
