Spartan Composites, an advanced composite access mat manufacturer, is locating operations in Saltillo with a $49 million corporate investment being announced Tuesday.

The company’s incoming Lee County location will “support its growing customer base, diversify production capacity, and strengthen supply chain resiliency, while establishing the company in the Southeast to broaden its market reach across North America and internationally,” a press release from the Mississippi Development Authority noted. Spartan Composites was founded in 2018 in Florida and is considered a leading company in providing composite matting to the infrastructure, oil and gas, defense, and utility sectors.

The investment in Saltillo is expected to bring 45 jobs to the area, with plans to fill the new jobs by December 2027, with a start date for operations set for September of that same year.

“We are pleased to expand our manufacturing operations to the Saltillo, Mississippi, area. This development represents our future worldwide manufacturing center and will help establish Spartan Composites as the leading composite mat manufacturer,” Spartan Composites President Jeff Juergens said. “We are grateful to the state of Mississippi, Lee County, and the city of Saltillo for their support and look forward to a prosperous future together.”

The Mississippi Development Authority is providing assistance for road improvements around the site. MDA is also assisting the project financially through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive program. Lee County and the Tennessee Valley Authority utility company are assisting with the project.

“Mississippi competes for advanced manufacturing projects every day, and we’re winning because we execute. Our focus on readiness, responsiveness, and results continues to pay off in communities across the state — this time with a $49 million investment and 45 new jobs coming to Lee County via Spartan Composites,” MDA executive director Bill Cork said. “This project is a result of Mississippi’s economic development team sitting on ‘go’ so manufacturers can scale production and succeed in today’s market.”

Gov. Tate Reeves, who can now add Spartan Composites to the growing list of economic development projects landed since he took office in 2020, said the investment is the “latest example” of his office and MDA’s focus on bringing not only jobs but future-proof jobs to the state. By the numbers, Reeves is the most successful governor in state history in terms of economic development, sitting at over $69 billion drawn in.

“Spartan Composites’ $49 million investment is another great advanced manufacturing win for our state,” Reeves said. “And it’s just the latest example of Mississippi attracting the jobs of the next 50 years. Mississippi has unprecedented momentum, and we continue to strengthen our state’s manufacturing base. The products we manufacture here have a global reach. It’s incredible to see the special things happening in Mississippi.”
