An individual is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Collins.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation reports that the incident occurred on Friday near Pine Avenue when officers with the Collins Police Department responded to a call for service regarding a disturbance involving a subject with a weapon. Upon arrival, police report that the subject approached officers with a weapon. Officers then discharged their weapons, striking the subject.
One officer received minor injuries, and the unidentified subject received fatal injuries, per the report. No other injuries were announced at the scene.
State investigators are currently assessing the incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office. Additional information may be provided at a later time, according to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
