Investigation underway after Alcorn County inmate found dead in jail cell

State officials are investigating the death of an Alcorn County inmate who was found dead in his jail cell.

According to the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office, staffers at the Alcorn County Jail found the inmate unresponsive during a routine check on Tuesday around 6:30 a.m. After attempting life-saving measures, medics at the scene pronounced the inmate dead.

The deceased was later identified as Milton Still Jr., 60.

Still’s body is being transported to the state crime lab for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Authorities did not confirm or deny whether there was any foul play suspected in the case.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case.
