A Rankin County man has been arrested in connection with a commercial burglary at a restaurant in the Florence area.
According to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified on Feb. 24 about a break-in at a fish house located on Dixie Road. Employees arriving to open the business discovered that cash had been taken from the register.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and observed a male suspect wearing a black hoodie outside the restaurant the night before the theft was discovered. Authorities said the individual was seen going to the building’s electrical box and shutting off the breaker, cutting power to the restaurant. Additional cameras in the surrounding area also captured images of the suspect.
Deputies launched an investigation and were able to identity and arrest the suspect within 24 hours of receiving the report.
The suspect, identified as Scott Dennis Roberts, 47, of Rankin County, was booked into the Rankin County Jail on a charge of burglary. Roberts is awaiting his initial appearance in county court.
Sheriff Bryan Bailey commended the deputies involved for their swift work in resolving the case.
