Mississippi State’s athletic department is altering the Bulldogs’ upcoming home baseball series due to expected inclement conditions in the Starkville area.
An official announcement was made on Wednesday that the opening matchup of No. 4 Mississippi State’s three-game stint versus Lipscomb has been moved to Thursday at 6 p.m., with gates to Dudy Noble Field opening at 4:30 p.m. Tickets for the series debut, which was originally set to begin on Friday, will be redeemed and the date will be adjusted on digital passes, per officials.
The schedule change comes as the National Weather Service forecasts a slight chance of thunderstorms in the area on Friday night with more heavy rainfall expected to occur on Saturday and Sunday. No further adjustments have been made to the schedule at this time.
“Moving the series opener to Thursday provides the best opportunity to complete all three games over the next four days,” a statement from Mississippi State Athletics reads. “Schedule adjustments for Games 2 and 3 of the series are still being evaluated as both programs continue to monitor the weekend forecast. Updates will be announced as the forecast becomes clearer and plans are finalized.”
The Diamond Dogs (11-2) will enter the weekend looking to get the bitter taste of defeat out of their mouth. After winning their first 11 games of the season, Brian O’Connor’s club dropped back-to-back matchups, both against top-10 opponents. The first was a heartbreaking loss against No. 1 UCLA on Sunday and the most recent was at No. 10 Southern Miss on Tuesday night. Both losses were by one run.
