The Mississippi Public Service Commission is looking to address the evolving needs of the state’s energy sector while exploring workforce recruitment strategies.
To accomplish those goals, an energy workforce and education summit will take place at the Woolfolk Building in downtown Jackson on Thursday, April 2, bringing together leaders from education, industry, and workforce development. According to the state agency, the summit will highlight workforce development and collaboration.
Accelerate MS Executive Director Dr. Courtney Taylor will headline conversations on aligning education with industry needs, while Mississippi Energy Institute President Patrick Sullivan will lead the discussion on bridging skills gaps, alongside a panel of leaders sharing innovative training models.
“The Energy Workforce & Education Summit reflects the Commission’s commitment to advancing workforce readiness, strengthening partnerships between education and industry, and ensuring Mississippi remains competitive in the rapidly changing energy landscape,” Mississippi’s three public service commissioners jointly stated.
The summit is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the public service commission’s courtroom inside the Jackson building. The summit will conclude with an exclusive breakout session where students will have the opportunity to engage directly with the commissioners.
“Mississippi’s energy future depends on a strong and adaptable workforce,” the commissioners added. “By fostering collaboration among educators, industry leaders, and policymakers, the Commission aims to ensure that Mississippi remains competitive and resilient in meeting future energy demands.”
