In game two of a college baseball series between rivals Ole Miss and LSU, tensions flared off the diamond between fans of the two programs with little to no love for one another.

While the Rebels and Tigers were duking it out on the playing field, an altercation in the student section at Swayze Field landed 52-year-old Alton Bloodworth behind bars. Videos circulating on social media show a man resembling Bloodworth, donning an LSU jersey, punching an unidentified male in the face and striking him again while apparently attempting to exit the stadium.

Before punches were thrown, someone sitting in the student section doused Bloodworth with a drink. A security guard on site rushed to an individual he believed to have been the perpetrator. While security was speaking to the person he purported to be behind the drink toss, Bloodworth reportedly took matters into his own hands.

A source who was at the scene at the time of the incident told SuperTalk Mississippi News that the person who was struck multiple times was not the source of the airborne beverage.

Bloodworth was handcuffed and transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center, where he was charged with simple assault. He bonded out at just over $330.

As for the game, Ole Miss throttled the reigning national champions 12-2 and won the series after defeating LSU on Friday. The No. 25 Rebels (25-11, 7-7 SEC) were able to oust the No. 24 Tigers (22-14, 6-8 SEC) in seven innings, despite trailing 2-0 early. After Saturday starter Cade Townsend settled in, the red and blue’s offense came to life, with a seven-run bottom of the sixth setting the stage for the 10-run rule victory.

Townsend (3-1) was credited with the win after throwing six mostly clean innings, where he recorded eight strikeouts and only surrendered a pair of earned runs on six hits and a walk. Offensively, Austin Fawley’s two-run long ball in the bottom of the fourth and Owen Paino’s bases-clearing double in the bottom of the sixth were the highlights of the matchup.

Ole Miss will have a chance to earn its first conference sweep of the 2026 season on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on SEC Network+ and participating SuperTalk Mississippi stations.

Tensions between Ole Miss and LSU fans have existed for a long time, but have escalated drastically since former Rebel football coach Lane Kiffin bolted for a job in Baton Rouge before the 2025-26 campaign concluded.

Kiffin has seemingly stoked the flames of the rivalry by taking multiple shots at his former employer through social media, where he is known to troll others, referring to LSU as “Just Different” — a reference to the university’s athletics department being superior to others, including the one he just left.

After game one of the diamond series, Rebel quarterback Trinidad Chambliss posted the final score graphic from the official Ole Miss baseball account to his Instagram stories, saying, “Just Different…” His former Ole Miss teammate, now-Missouri starting signal caller Austin Simmons, even weighed in, saying “Pop off,” in what appeared to be a jab at Kiffin.

Ole Miss will host LSU in football on Sept. 19, in what is expected to be one of the most-watched games of the upcoming regular season. And if Saturday’s baseball game proved anything, it’s that the odds of the two bases’ fans getting into future spats are remarkably high.
