Mississippi native and star Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy was shot at a concert in his home state but is now in stable condition, according to the university’s athletic department.

Missouri said in a Monday morning statement that Hardy was shot Sunday morning and underwent surgery.

Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family, and fans,” the school’s statement said. “We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength, and support.”

The statement added that a timeline for Hardy’s return to football activities is unknown at this time.

The Oma native who played his prep years at Lawrence County transferred from Louisiana Monroe to Missouri ahead of the 2025 season and was second among FBS players with 1,639 rushing yards, adding 16 touchdowns. He was named to the All-SEC first team and SEC Newcomer of the Year.

It is unclear what concert Hardy was at when shot and if any arrests have been made in the incident.
