Six Mississippi students have been named 2026 U.S. Presidential Scholar semifinalists.

The Mississippi Department of Education made the announcement Wednesday, adding that the program honors the nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors.

Semifinalists representing the Magnolia State include:

  • Jack F. Durr, Pearl High School
  • Jake T. Heisler, Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science
  • Adriana Kroeze, St. Andrew’s Episcopal School
  • Mirae L. Nishikawa, Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science
  • Lucy R. Rust, St. Andrew’s Episcopal School
  • Bryson A. Soffra, Hancock High School

Mississippi’s semifinalists were selected from among thousands of candidates nationwide. Up to 161 shining pupils will be chosen as 2026 U.S. Presidential Scholars based on accomplishments in academic and artistic success, career and technical fields, leadership, and involvement in school and the community.

Last year, Long Beach High School’s Alexis Griffith, Jackson Prep’s Nichols E. Katsaboulas, and Gulfport High School’s Jackson Pearce earned the honor.

Created in 1964, the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program honors the nation’s top students with the prestigious award being presented to honorees during an annual ceremony in Washington, D.C.
