An investigation has been launched after an officer-involved shooting in Ocean Springs left one dead early Friday morning.
Officers with the Ocean Springs Police Department responded to around 3:30 a.m. to a call regarding a disturbance near the Quality Inn on Bienville Boulevard. Upon arriving, they located a male subject with a weapon, according to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.
When officers asked the subject to put the weapon down, DPS said he “attempted to come at the officers in a threatening way.” The officers then discharged their weapons, striking the subject.
The subject was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
No law enforcement officers received any physical injuries during the incident.
As of Friday at 6:45 a.m., the identity of the subject had not been released. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case and will share its findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
