Arrest made in connection with deadly Jackson trail ride shooting

An arrest has been made in connection to six people being shot during a Jackson trail ride event.

Detective Tommie Brown with the Jackson Police Department said their investigation led to Amarien Carmichael being taken into custody on Monday. Carmichael, 18, was charged with one count of murder and five counts of aggravated assault.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m. on June 6, JPD officers responded to a reported shooting at the Grant’s Field venue in the 2900 block of Forrest Avenue. There, they found a person dead and five injured.

“The shooting occurred during a trail ride event at Grants Field in Northwest Jackson, where witnesses reported that a very large crowd was in attendance. According to witness accounts, the incident began as a fight involving several unidentified males and later escalated to gunfire,” JPD said in a release at the time.

The deceased was identified as Joidan Worthy, 18. Worthy was a recent graduate of Canton High School.

Four of the five injured victims were transported to and treated at local hospitals. Their current conditions are unknown. The fifth injured victim suffered a minor injury after being grazed by a projectile and did not seek hospital treatment, according to JPD.

The investigation remains active.
