Mississippians with faulty driver’s licenses can get a free replacement.

Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell reports that the backside barcode on some recently-issued IDs have not been scanning properly, posing problems for Mississippians in the TSA line at airports, gas stations, grocery stores, and other places where they are frequently scanned.

Tindell added that his team has identified the issue and is prepared to hand out replacements at no cost to those who have been inconvenienced by the malfunction. The commissioner said that, for those looking to replace a faulty license, an appointment will need to be made at their nearest driver service bureau beginning Tuesday, June 23.

“Over the last three weeks, we have been working diligently to identify and correct that problem, and we have now done that,” Tindell said. “If you have a driver’s license that has not scanned properly somewhere, make an appointment to come in, and we will scan it, and if it is not scanning at our facility, we will issue you a new driver’s license free of charge.”
