While the 2026 college baseball season just ended, the 2027 schedule for Southern Miss is beginning to take shape.
Southern Miss Athletics announced Tuesday it has accepted an invitation to the 2027 Frisco College Baseball Classic, scheduled for March 5-7 at Riders Field in Frisco, Texas. Joining the Golden Eagles in the field will be Oklahoma, Kansas, and UC Irvine.
Oklahoma is the defending national champion, while Kansas won the Big 12 and UC Irvine narrowly missed the NCAA Tournament in 2026. Despite hosting the Big West Tournament after winning the regular season conference title, UC Irvine was not selected to a regional, snapping an NCAA Tournament streak that dated back to 2023.
Southern Miss is coming off a Sun Belt championship and its 10th 40-win season in a row – a Division I-leading streak – and hosted a regional in Hattiesburg, though the Golden Eagles were upset by Little Rock in the regional championship series.

“The Frisco Classic has become one of the premier early-season events in college baseball, and the 2027 field is a great example of that,” said Ryan Holloway of Peak Events, which is putting on the Frisco Classic. “To have the reigning national champion Sooners joined by the Jayhawks, Golden Eagles, and Anteaters makes for an electric weekend.
“We can’t wait to showcase these outstanding programs and welcome their fans to Frisco for another unforgettable weekend at Riders Field.”
Riders Field is home of the Texas Rangers’ Double-A affiliate, the Frisco Roughridgers. The weekend tournament will have two games per day in a round-robin format, with the full schedule and game times being announced soon.
