A Forrest County sheriff’s investigator has died after a motorcycle crash over the weekend.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 2:10 p.m. Saturday on Highway 589 when a Chevrolet Silverado traveling south collided with a northbound Honda motorcycle being driven by Investigator Andretta English. English, 30, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The two occupants of the Silverado were not injured.
The Forrest County Sheriff’s Office announced that English passed away early Sunday morning despite “courageous but unsuccessful effort” by trauma surgeons and medical professionals to save her life following the Saturday crash.
English joined the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office in February 2024, serving as a patrol deputy before being assigned to the Investigations Division earlier this year. Beforehand, she worked nearly 10 years as a paramedic with the AAA Ambulance Service.
“From her very first day, her passion for serving others was evident,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Her dedication, strong work ethic, and unwavering commitment to this profession quickly earned the respect of those around her.”
Officials said English was known for her “quiet strength, determined spirit, and compassionate heart,” adding that she approached every assignment with professionalism and integrity.
The agency also thanked the trauma surgeons, ICU nurses, physicians, and other medical staff who treated English, along with the Forrest General Police Department and law enforcement agencies across the region that supported her family and fellow deputies during her hospitalization.
“Rest easy, Investigator Andretta English. Thank you for your service, your compassion, and your sacrifice,” the sheriff’s office continued in the statement. “Your watch has ended, but your legacy will remain with us forever.”
Gov. Tate Reeves also offered his condolences, writing on social media that English “dedicated her life to serving others, and her unwavering commitment to her community will never be forgotten.”
The Mississippi Highway Patrol has not released any additional information about the cause of the crash.
