Bond has been denied for the two men accused in a Jackson shooting that claimed the lives of three people, including a 2-year-old child.
Cornelius Carter and Jordan Carter, both 28 and not related, were arrested Monday night and charged in connection with the triple homicide that happened Saturday at a home in the 300 block of Queen Alexandria Lane.
The suspects appeared in municipal court Tuesday and were ordered by a judge to remain at the Raymond Detention Center. Both suspects have criminal histories, according to WLBT-TV, leading the judge to deem them dangers to society.
The Jackson-based station reported that Jordan previously served five years in prison after pleading guilty to a 2016 kidnapping in which prosecutors said he abducted a woman at gunpoint. Cornelius served prison time after pleading guilty to aggravated assault charges stemming from a 2015 case in which authorities said he struck three Jackson Police Department detectives with a vehicle. He was also later convicted in a separate case involving contraband at the jail.
Cornelius was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of his arrest Monday night. The arrests came after law enforcement attempted a traffic stop on Maddox Road that turned into a pursuit involving a vehicle investigators believed was connected to the crime. Authorities allege the two men are responsible for the deaths of sisters Keyana Weathersby, 25, and Erica Weathersby, 30, along with Keyana’s 2-year-old son, Camari Givens.
Cornelius is charged with capital murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, while Jordan is charged with capital murder.
Officials with the Jackson Police Department have said investigators believe the shooting was targeted and that the investigation remains active. Additional arrests are possible.
