While many folks will be soaking up the sun and enjoying America250 celebrations on the water, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks will look to curb drinking and boating this Independence Day weekend.

The state agency is participating in Operation Dry Water, a national boating under the influence enforcement campaign. As part of the initiative, the public can expect to see an uptick in law enforcement patrolling waterways and conducting safety checkpoints.

Organizers with the campaign said their goal is to make the water safer for boaters and swimmers by removing as many impaired operators as possible.
