Suspect charged with murder after deadly Long Beach shooting

A Vancleave man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting in Long Beach, authorities announced Friday.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, Hallis Wayne Russ Jr., 38, was taken into custody around 1 a.m. Friday following an investigation into a shooting death on Allen Road on Thursday. He was charged with one count of murder.

Police said Russ was located and arrested at a residence near Pat Eubanks Road in George County.

Russ was transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held on a $1 million bond set by Justice Court Judge Theressia Lyons pending further court proceedings.

The victim was identified as Neville Conner, 38. Conner was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities have not released a possible motive.

The Long Beach Police Department said the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, George County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County Emergency Services Unit, and the Mississippi Department of Homeland Security assisted in the investigation.
