Fresh off of winning the first softball national championship in program history, Pearl River Community College’s Christie Meeks has landed a new opportunity at South Alabama.

South Alabama head coach Becky Clark announced Wednesday that Meeks will be joining her Jaguar staff as associate head coach. Her day-to-day role will include overseeing pitcher development and assisting with pitch calling and strategy.

Meeks, a native of Mobile, where South Alabama is located, brings a proven track record of success with her to the Division I program. She spent the past seven seasons building Pearl River into a JUCO juggernaut, with the Wildcats making their first NJCAA Division II Tournament this past season, and going on a run that ended with them hoisting the national title trophy.

“I could not be more grateful to come back home and have the opportunity to join such an amazing program and coaching staff,” Meeks said. “Their knowledge, leadership, passion, and commitment to excellence has built championship culture. I am excited and determined to help continue this standard here at the University of South Alabama.”

In her seven seasons at Pearl River, Meeks compiled an overall record of 231-93, a 71.3% winning clip, and over that span the program has been ranked in the NJCAA polls every season since the 2021 campaign.

Individually, five players, including four from the circle – Ana-Grace Garcia (2026), Natalie Herrington (2024) and Brinson Anne Rogers (2022 and 2023) – have been named NJCAA All-Americans during her tenure. Herrington (2024) and Rogers (2023) were also named the MACCC Pitcher of the Year.

Prior to arriving at PRCC, Meeks spent five seasons as an assistant at Mississippi Gulf Coast, where she served primarily as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. During her time there, the Bulldogs built a 184-50 overall record and earned an NJCAA Tournament berth, won the MACJC and Region XXIII titles, placed second in the State tournament twice and third in the Region Tournament twice.

Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Meeks coached at East Central High School in Moss Point from 2013-14, where she was the pitching coach, while also running volleyball operations. Additionally, Meeks was an assistant coach at Satsuma High and Theodore High in Alabama in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

As a player, Meeks starred at Theodore before going on to play at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, where she was an all-region performer. From there, Meeks moved on to play at the University of Mobile.

Now, Meeks will look to use her pitching coaching experience to elevate South Alabama. The 2027 college softball season will begin this coming February.
