The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office arrested two individuals, who were already on probation, on charges of possession of and intent to distribute methamphetamine.

On Thursday, the sheriff’s office’s STING Unit received a tip that a vehicle was traveling southbound from Monroe County and transporting narcotics. Thanks to the tip, the vehicle was located on Highway 45 North, where the officers conducted a traffic stop at a gas station.

According to officials, the agents found probable cause to search the vehicle and individuals, where they found the meth concealed on them. In total, one and one-quarter ounces of meth were recovered from the suspects.

Silverine Jefferson, 43, was charged with possession of meth. Alexis Denney, 25, was charged with possession of and the intent to distribute the narcotic.

At the scene, Jefferson appeared to be wearing a court-ordered ankle monitor during the STING Unit’s bust. Both suspects were later found to be on probation through the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

“The success of this investigation is a direct result of community members who are willing to speak up when they see criminal activity,” Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said in praising the STING Unit’s work. “Every tip matters, and we appreciate the public’s trust in our office. We will continue working every day to reduce the availability of illegal drugs in Lowndes County and hold those who choose to break the law accountable.”
