Mississippians impacted by an early May tornado outbreak will soon have the opportunity to be assisted when seeking federal recovery aid.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is opening six disaster service centers, where homeowners and renters can meet with federal application specialists to submit new applications for aid and to review the status of existing applications.
At the state level, MEMA representatives will be available to answer questions about unmet needs and local resources possibly available. Officials could also refer tornado victims to nonprofit organizations.
Disaster loan specialists from the Small Business Administration will be on site to explain how loans can help both homeowners and businesses. They can also provide details about loan terms.
These six centers will open in the following five counties on Tuesday at noon:

Hours of operation at each center will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. All will be closed on Sunday. They will be up and running until further notice.
Eight tornadoes touched down in Mississippi between May 6-7, injuring 26 people and damaging or destroying more than 425 homes and businesses.
